Alechinsky: Paintings and Writings.

Ionesco, Eugene. Alechinsky: Paintings and Writings. 1977, Pittsburgh, Carnegie Museum of Art. Monograph that accompanied the 1977 retrospective exhibition for P.A. at the Carnegie which coincided with Alechinsky's award of the first Carnegie International Prize for Painting and Sculpture. Hard-bound, profusely illustrated, in fine condition $75

In 1949, Pierre Alechinsky joined with Karel Appel, Constant, Corneille, Christian Dotremont, Asger Jorn, Carl-Henning Pedersen and dozens of other artists as part of The Cobra group (1948-1951.) The present volume is a remarkable one in several ways. Its introductory text was written by the famous playwright and Poet Eugene Ionesco, and it als makes Alechinsky's own writings available for the first time in English. The format of the book reveals the artist's hand, for he helped design it and also created the dust jacket. Alechinsky's brilliant paintings - full of dynamic color and linear movement - are amply represented. An illustrated biographical outline, a list of exhibitions and an index complete the volume.
