Theo Wolvecamp, co-founder of the Experimentele Groep Holland and member of The Cobra group, returned in 1954 to his native village of Twente after the international adventure of Cobra (1948-1951).

In the solitude and natural surroundings of Twente, Wolvecamp developed an extremely personal art of painting, a symbolic expressionism with characteristic forms and colors. The improvisatorial manner of working originating from the Cobra period and the laborious struggle with matters that began in Hengelo were instrumental to Wolvecamp's development.

This monograph speaks of a pure painter with an admittedly limited series of works, but one which is of vital importance for the contemporary art of painting.
